Dawn Loombe

Playing with Redhouse Radio

Piano Accordionist and Music Therapist

Dawn began playing the piano accordion in Norwich in the 1970s (she was very young!) with her school friend Glenis - now Glenis Caley - and they both took accordion lessons with the late Cyril Burroughs. At first, Dawn played bass accordion in the Norwich Accordion Club Band and then 'got the bug' for playing piano accordion, taking her Grade exams and playing for festivals and community events.

Dawn married David in 1984 and they moved to Cambridge in 1988, where she met with other musicians and enjoyed life as a community musician, playing for various social events, whilst working in a variety of roles and becoming 'Mum' to Katie and Emily.

Music continued to be very important for Dawn and the accordion has remained close to her heart (quite literally!) In 2003, she had a complete career change and studied for her Music Therapy MA at the Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge (with the piano accordion as her main instrument). Dawn now works as a music therapist with both children and adults in a variety of settings.

Dawn currently plays accordion with Cambridge-based groups Redhouse Radio http://www.myspace.com/redhouse6 and the Lemon Street Cafe Band http://www.cambridgemusicians.co.uk.
She also plays with Norfolk-based band Hoofbeat http://www.deepmusic.co.uk/bands/hoofbeat and Mellow Bellows based in Ipswich, http://www.mellowbellows.co.uk
